GW Plastics has broken ground on a 30,000-square-foot expansion of its manufacturing and technology center in Royalton, Vt.

The $10 million expansion, announced last week, is meant to accommodate the ongoing growth of GW’s thermoplastic injection molding and medical device contract assembly business.

The project marks the second expansion in Royalton in three years and the fifth since GW established the facility in the late 1980s. Located just miles from GW Plastics’ headquarters in Bethel, Vt., the Royalton facility has grown over the years into the company’s main manufacturing and technology center. The 24-acre campus houses some of the company’s most advanced manufacturing technology, including 3D printers for plastic and steel and robotically-assisted injection molding and contract manufacturing.

The Royalton center will have a total of 90,000 square feet of advanced manufacturing space once the new expansion is complete. The expansion will include a new 13,000 ft² Class 8 cleanroom able to house an additional 30 injection molding machines. The expansion also includes an additional 17,000 ft² of warehousing space.

GW Plastics expects to add over 30 new jobs in Royalton.

GW Plastics also recently announced an expansion in Sligo, Ireland. “On the heels of a major expansion in Ireland, we are delighted to announce this expansion in our home state of Vermont, reaffirming our commitment to growing in Vermont and the United States while serving the needs of our customers globally,” Brenan Riehl, president and CEO of GW Plastics, said in a news release.

The company has poured millions of dollars into expansion and technology, growing in recent years into a more than 1,000-employee company with eight worldwide facilities comprising more than 500,000 square feet.
