Medtronic completes acquisition of Scientia Vascular

June 12, 2026 By Sean Whooley

Medtronic Scientia Vascular LogosMedtronic (NYSE:MDT) announced today that it completed its previously announced acquisition of Scientia Vascular for $550 million.

In March, the medtech giant said it struck a deal to acquire Salt Lake City, Utah–based Scientia, which develops access products for treating complex neurovascular conditions.

With the acquisition, Medtronic becomes the latest big-name medtech company to make a neurovascular play. It follows the likes of Boston Scientific, which agreed to acquire Penumbra in January, and Stryker, which bought Inari Medical in early 2025.

Scientia’s novel access platform addresses the challenges of the cerebral vasculature by improving navigability through complex anatomy to simplify neurovascular procedures. Medtronic said the technology enables faster and more reliable access to improve procedural efficiency.

Medtronic says the acquisition strengthens its ability to support physicians across the full procedural workflow in stroke treatment. It can seamlessly integrate Scientia’s guidewires and catheters into its existing suite of neurovascular products. That includes microwires and microcatheters designed to make neurovascular cases easier, faster and safer.

According to Medtronic, the deal reflects its “continued focus on strategic deals that strengthen its leadership across core businesses.”

The company expects a minimally dilutive impact to its adjusted earnings per share (EPS) in fiscal 2027 and accretive thereafter.

Commentary from Medtronic and Scientia officials

Linnea Burman, SVP and president of Medtronic’s Neurovascular business, said:

“The addition of Scientia’s access technologies strengthens our ability to simplify complex neurovascular procedures and support physicians with more seamless solutions. By bringing together highly complementary technologies, we are building a more integrated platform that will help advance the future of neurovascular care and enable physicians to treat more patients with greater efficiency and confidence.”

Rick Randall, CEO of Scientia, said:

“Since its founding, Scientia has been driven by a commitment to improving patients’ lives and supporting the physicians who care for them. Joining Medtronic is an exciting next step for our team, as their Mission closely aligns with the values that have guided Scientia from the beginning. With Medtronic’s global scale, we look forward to bringing this technology to more physicians and reaching more patients around the world.”
