TE Connectivity acquires MicroGroup

May 3, 2017 By Chris Newmarker

TE Connectivity MicroGroupTE Connectivity has acquired MicroGroup, a Medway, Mass.–based provider of precision metal shafts for medical devices.

The deal, which TE Medical SVP and general manager Paraic Curtis announced in a message to customers on May 1, is but the latest in a number of acquisitions TE has made in recent years to strengthen its medical device design and manufacturing capabilities. Last year, the Swiss connectors and sensors giant said it would buy Irish medical device maker Creganna Medical for $895 million. In 2015, TE said it had agreed to buy advanced catheter company AdvancedCath for $190 million.

Curtis did not mention financial terms of the deal in the message.

“TE’s acquisition of MicroGroup broadens our metal tubes and precision metal shafts offering for interventional devices and significantly enhances our capabilities to develop and manufacture metal shafts for devices used in electrosurgery, endoscopy, and analytical and diagnostic instrumentation,” Curtis said in the message to customers.

“MicroGroup’s capabilities complement TE’s experience in catheter technologies, guidewires, custom connectors, cable assemblies, sensors and heatshrink tubing, positioning us to provide the most advanced, vertically integrated solutions to you, our customers,” Curtis said.

The MicroGroup purchase allows TE to add a 75,000-square-foot FDA-registered facility in Medway to its global footprint.

TE Connectivity is a $12 billion-a-year global technology company with a focus on connectors and sensors for transportation, industrial applications, medical technology, energy, data communications and the home.
