Acutus Medical 3D imaging and mapping catheter wins FDA clearance

September 21, 2020 By Danielle Kirsh

acutus-medicalAcutus medical recently won FDA 510(k) clearance of its AcQMap 3D imaging and mapping catheter.

The mapping catheter builds on its predecessor and improves handling and deliverability. It combines 48 ultrasound transducers responsible for creating anatomical geometry and 48 engineered electrodes that enable electrical activation patterns to display along the inner surface of the heart.

AcQMap is compatible with 0.035 in. guidewire and is designed to be inserted into the left and right atrium. The high-resolution ultrasound-based imaging and non-contact mapping catheter is capable of capturing cardiac imaging information and cardiac activation mapping. It also allows physicians to map all types of atrial arrhythmias and the high definition maps allow physicians to identify ablation targets outside the pulmonary veins and strategically plan patient-specific ablation strategy.

The catheter comes with a reusable and sterilizable cable that can be used up to 10 times. It features improved anatomy reconstruction, fast acquisition times and the potential for enhanced procedural efficiencies.

“At Acutus, we pride ourselves on our continued and rapid cadence of bringing innovative, differentiated technologies to the market,” president and CEO Vince Burgess said in a news release. “We are committed to partnering with physicians to continually provide products and solutions to address physicians unmet needs.”
