The multi-lumen silicone tubing technology is designed to prevent lumen kinks and blockages by providing a balance of stress in the inner and outer lumens when tubes bend. It is ideal for pacemakers, breathing tubes, neurostimulation and other applications that navigate through complex pathways within the body.
“Our HelixTwist technology literally clears the path for higher quality and safer medical device applications with an outstanding degree of twisting capabilities,” general manager Rudi Gall said. “In minimally invasive procedures, a surgeon needs to navigate through different pathways and tubing with a straight lumen might easily kink and hence block a specific lumen as pathways, such as arteries, will twist and wind in sometimes unforeseeable directions.”
Multi-lumen tubing is used to carry wires and cables or to create a fluid pathway for drug delivery, according to Freudenberg Medical. The tubing design is used in a number of minimally invasive procedures and if there are blockages or kinks, the medical procedure could be unsuccessful.
