Penumbra (NYSE:PEN) has received FDA clearance and launched its Ruby XL system for embolization procedures.
The Alameda, California-based device maker launched the platform as a new option for physicians treating high-flow or large-vessel cases.
The Ruby XL system includes three new coils that are compatible with 0.035-inch diagnostic catheters and offer coils up to 40 mm in diameter and 70 cm in length. All three are designed to deliver higher volume per coil to improve procedural efficiency and potentially reduce costs and radiation exposure.
“We’ve engineered Ruby XL to deliver more volume per coil than any other coil on the market, which may result in cost savings,” said Shruthi Narayan, President of Interventional Business at Penumbra. “Ruby XL embodies Penumbra’s commitment to innovation, delivering mechanical occlusion through more volume without sacrificing softness or deliverability.”
Ruby XL features a complex 3D shape intended to help frame aneurysms in a range of clinical scenarios. Penumbra designed POD XL for high-flow vessels and includes anchoring, framing and dense filling segments within a single coil. Packing Coil XL uses a wave-shaped design meant to dynamically adapt to various vessel sizes during embolization.
