Micro adds a building to expand manufacturing space

Medical device contract manufacturer Micro said it has expanded to a third building in Somerset, N.J.

The new facility is located between the company’s existing properties. The company said it will use 35,000 of the building’s 50,000 square feet of space for offices, freeing up more space for manufacturing in the other two buildings. Staff began moving into their new offices this week. In June, Micro plans to open a state-of-the-art 15,000 sq. ft. R&D center inside the new building to showcase the company’s development capabilities.

The building’s purchase brings Micro’s holdings in Somerset to 176,500 square feet. Approximately half of that space is devoted to manufacturing, quality labs and prototype and development facilities. In 2018, the company expanded its footprint in precision machining — an important competency in manufacturing for the robotic surgery market — by adding two more Willemin-Macodel high-precision 5-axis mill turning machines.

Micro manufactures titanium and stainless steel ligation clips, a variety of blades, scissors, stapling and biopsy devices, as well as laparoscopic, endoscopic and arthroscopic minimally invasive surgical instruments.
