Tekni-Plex said today that it has invested $15 million in a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility near Shanghai, in Suzhou, China.
The new facility is meant to meet the growing needs of the Asia-Pacific medical device and pharmaceutical market, according to Wayne, Pa.–based Tekni-Plex. Some production is already underway at the more than 140,000-square-foot facility. Tekni-Plex is meanwhile phasing out production at its existingSuzhou facility, operated since 2005.
The Suzhou plant will make products for Tekni-Plex’s Natvar, Colorite and Action Technology business units. It includes 3 Class 100K cleanrooms for medical-grade tubing and components production. It also has one Class 10K cleanroom dedicated to Natvar’s pharma-grade tubing.
Other products manuctured at the factory will include Natvar’s recently-announced silicone extrusion tubing for catheters, drug delivery, feeding tubes and peristaltic pump applications – as well as microextrusion tubing. The plant will also make Colorite custom compounds for medical device applications, and Action Technology’s dip tubes.
“Tekni-Plex’s investment in our new China facility is another step in our continuing commitment to support our customers with robust global supply. Pharmaceutical, medical device and other manufacturers want access to exactly the same components and materials regardless of where in the world their manufacturing facility is located. It is our goal to meet those objectives,” Tekni-Plex CEO Paul Young said in a news release.
