Krohne (Beverly, Mass.) recently announced that it has launched its FlexMag 4050 C electromagnetic flowmeter with a biocompatible disposable flow tube. The flowmeter is designed for single-use biopharmaceutical applications like the filtration processes, chromatography or buffer and media preparation.

The FlexMag 4050 C features high accuracy and factory calibration that eliminates the need for in-situ calibration. It also includes a biocompatible and gamma sterilizable disposable flow tube that is sterilizable at 25.40 kGy irradiation.

All of the materials used to make the flowmeters are FDA/USP Class VI and ISO 10993 compliant and are manufactured in an ISO 13485 certified site in an ISO 7 clean room environment.

Krohne’s new flowmeter uses a single barb fitting that meets biopharmaceutical requirements for adaption to single-use systems. Its full-bore construction is designed for minimal hold-up volume while the single barb fitting is best used for braided and non-braided hoses.

The disposable single-use flow tubes are packed in double sealed individual pouches and the transmitter can fit two different flow tube sizes, allowing for flexibility to use two different flow ranges by exchanging the tube without re-calibration.
