With the system, the disposable tube set helps keep donor livers perfused outside of the body for up to 24 hours. Once the liver is connected to the transplant device, the Raumedic tubing set becomes filled with packed red blood cells. The pump functions as an artificial heart and circulates blood through the tubing from the filter bag to the oxygenator. The oxygenator works like a lung and gives the blood the oxygen it needs and maintains body temperature.
Raumedic produces and assembles more than 200 components for the tubing set, which includes various silicone and PVC tubes, ECC connectors and product-specific molded parts. The parts are manually assembled in a clean room inside Raumedic’s Helmbrechts, Germany-based headquarters. Then the tubing sets are packaged, EtI sterilized and shipped to customers.
