4 catheter-based devices to watch for in 2021

April 28, 2021 By Danielle Kirsh

sapphire-proCardiovascular Systems: Sapphire II Pro OTW 1.0 mm balloon dilation catheter

Cardiovascular Systems (NSDQ:CSII) expects to launch its Sapphire II Pro over-the-wire 1.0 mm balloon dilation catheter later this year, according to a February investor presentation.

The Sapphire Pro II balloon dilation catheter is designed to cross difficult lesions and track tortuous anatomy. It has a 1.0 mm balloon that is FDA-cleared with a sub-zero tapered tip for an “ultra-low profile” and smooth entry through tight lesions, according to Cardiovascular Systems.

The balloon angioplasty device, which is manufactured by OrbusNeich, also has a P-Tech shaft that is designed with a small catheter profile to resist kinking.

Cardiovascular Systems projects that it will launch the Sapphire II Pro OTW 1.0 mm balloon dilation catheter in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2021.

Other catheter-based Cardiovascular Systems devices expected to launch in FY 2021 include:

  • PTA balloons (including radial).
  • Wirion embolic protection system: distal embolic protection filter used to capture thrombus and debris in peripheral vascular intervention procedures.
  • 0.035 ViperCath Fem length: exchange catheter to guide and support guidewire access in the vasculature and allow for wire exchanges while providing a conduit for delivering saline and contrast.
